Animals & Monsters: Cute, Scary, and Slightly Weird

An exhibition showcasing a variety of animals and monsters depicted in ukiyo-e prints. Exploring characters from adorable animals to spine-chilling yokai and bizarre yet humorous beings, the exhibit highlights a wide range of captivating figures. From familiar pets like cats and dogs to mythological creatures such as foxes, demons, and tsukumogami, as well as anthropomorphized animals and strange characters, all are examined through the themes of 'cute,' 'scary,' and 'slightly weird.' Approximately 140 ukiyo-e artworks are on display, with all pieces swapped out in the different exhibition phases. Including new acquisitions unveiled for the first time, visitors can enjoy the rich visual world of animals and monsters in ukiyo-e art.
