Special Exhibition Celebrating 700 Years of Daitoku-ji: The Unrivaled Zen Temple of Japan
Wednesday, October 14, 2026
A special exhibition commemorating the 700th anniversary of Daitoku-ji, located in the Murasakino district of Kyoto. This is the first exhibition in Tokyo showcasing Daitoku-ji’s treasures, featuring masterpieces passed down through its affiliated temples—historically tied to eminent monks, emperors, feudal warlords, and tea masters. Highlights include National Treasure paintings such as 'Guanyin, Monkey, and Crane,' Important Cultural Property works like 'Dragons and Tigers,' as well as Buddhist statues, calligraphy, and tea ceremony utensils. Visitors can experience the rich 700-year history and beauty of Daitoku-ji, including a recreation of the normally inaccessible Sanmon gate within the exhibition venue.
