The first of two concerts with Martha Argerich is built around "Akiko's Piano," an instrument that survived the atomic bombing of Hiroshima and that she has felt a deep connection with since 2015. Argerich joins violinists Mayuko Kamio and Rio Arai, violist Hiroki Kasai, cellist Gen Yokosaka and pianist Akane Sakai for chamber works including Schumann's Piano Quintet and pieces by Debussy, Mendelssohn and Rachmaninoff. The evening also includes a talk segment about carrying on the piano's story.
