DESCRIPTION:WISH LESS gallery is pleased to announce a solo exhibition by the artist Yumi Nakata. Nakata’s new body of work\, titled Small Widow\, is a series of oil paintings based on screenshots and their compositional arrangements.\n\nNakata’s practice is driven by a desire to generate alternative ways of seeing from private\, closed images. She begins by creating digital collages from the vast number of personal photographs accumulated through everyday life. These collages are then dramatically enlarged on a computer screen\, where she repeatedly captures new screenshots. From this semi-automated process emerges a collection of images that is\, in itself\, almost devoid of meaning. By deliberately selecting\, arranging\, and translating these images into paint\, Nakata separates the original significance of the source imagery from the tactile presence of the painted surface\, creating works in which multipl...
