SUMMARY:Yoko Kamijo 1960–2000: Returning to the Origins— Struggle and Joy
DESCRIPTION:Yoko Kamijo came to national prominence in 1978 after receiving the Yasui Award while still a relatively unknown artist. As the first woman to win the award\, Kamijo attracted widespread attention and quickly emerged as a distinctive voice in contemporary Japanese art. Since then\, the artist has built an internationally recognized career\, with activities extending beyond artistic practice to include humanitarian work such as support for Palestinian refugees.\n\nThis exhibition centers on paintings created between the 1960s and around 2000\, a formative period that laid the foundation for Kamijo's bold and highly individual practice. It also marks the first exhibition in Japan to present a comprehensive survey of the artist's nearly seventy-year career.\n\nhttps://www.tokyoartbeat.com/en/events/-/Yoko-Kamijo-1960-2000-Returning-to-the-Origins-Struggle-and-Joy/FED-42-A18/2026-08-01
