After opening its port in 1859, Yokohama quickly became a center for Western music and was once home to piano manufacturing. This lecture explores Yokohama's unique historical connection to the piano, tracing stories such as instrument dealers in the foreign settlement, the Nishikawa brand founded by Torakichi Nishikawa, and pianos made by the Chinese community including Zhou Xiaosheng. Advance registration required via Peatix. Lecturer: Hitoshi Karita (Chief Curator, Yokohama Museum of History).
