Laos is home to many ethnic groups, each cultivating unique textile traditions. Among them, the vivid colors and enigmatic patterns of Northern Laos weaving express deep spiritual wishes. Following Laos's independence in 1953, civil conflict forced many people to give up their traditional garments, unintentionally revealing the region’s sophisticated weaving techniques to neighboring countries. This exhibition showcases the hidden beauty and intricate craftsmanship of traditional Lao textiles, featuring treasured pieces from the Yanagi Collection, which was assembled to protect these rare textiles from dispersal.
