An exhibition exploring the unique appeal of essay manga—comics based on the creators’ own experiences and insights. Tracing the genre's evolution from the essay comics found in girls’ manga of the 1970s, through investigative manga of the 1980s, to parenting-themed comics of the 1990s, and works published on social media and digital platforms today. On display are about 400 original works by 27 manga artists including Momoko Sakura, Miri Masuda, Taro Yabe, and Mamekichi Mameko. The exhibition also features storyboards, concept notebooks, and introduces 50 recommended works themed around topics like “family,” presented as “prescriptions.”
