Sairenji Temple in Namegata, Ibaraki, is a temple of the Tendai sect and is known locally as the Mount Koya of Hitachi. Within its grounds stand two ancient ginkgo trees, said to have been planted over a thousand years ago by the temple's founder. These impressive trees feature large aerial roots characteristic of aged ginkgo, and during their peak autumn color, the temple grounds are blanketed in brilliant yellow leaves, creating a breathtaking golden landscape.
