Held in Konosu, Saitama Prefecture, which boasts about 380 years of doll-making tradition, this Doll Appreciation Festival gathers dolls from across the country after they have fulfilled their purpose, to be honored and ceremonially burned. The event includes a parade featuring children dressed in adorable costumes. On the same day, the grand Ojuya Buddhist memorial service at Shoganji Temple—one of the three major Ojuya services in the Kanto region—attracts many visitors and street vendors. Shoganji Temple is renowned for its ties to Tokugawa Ieyasu and is also the resting place of Komatsuhime, wife of Sanada Nobuyuki.
