Gunma is known as one of Japan’s main regions for lion dances. This event features a live performance and lecture on the Tsukida Chikado Shrine Lion Dance, which is designated as an Important Intangible Folk Cultural Asset by the prefecture. The program provides an easy-to-understand introduction to the traditional lion dances of Gunma. Whether you are interested in traditional culture or just curious about the region, this event offers something for all ages. The lecture is given by Associate Professor Kotaro Suzuki from Takasaki City University of Economics, and the performance is by the Tsukida Chikado Shrine Lion Dance Preservation Society. Advance reservations are required, but walk-ins are welcome if seats are available on the day.
