From September 19 to November 23, 2026, the Hiratsuka City Art Museum will host a major retrospective on Koji Kudo to mark the 110th anniversary of his birth. Kudo, who long maintained a studio in Hiratsuka, was a painter who brought new horizons to postwar Japanese-style painting. He is known for his poetic depictions of the harsh northern landscapes and the vibrant life within them, creating a unique world where fantasy and reality intertwine. This exhibition will feature approximately 90 works spanning his career, offering a comprehensive look at his art over 70 years. The show is the first full retrospective in Kanagawa Prefecture in 35 years, inviting visitors to experience Kudo's fresh sensibility and beautiful use of color.
