A special exhibition celebrating the grand opening of the Imperial Palace Sannomaru Shozokan. Approximately 190 masterpieces linked to the Imperial Family will be showcased, including paintings and crafts passed down through generations, treasures from the Shosoin Repository, offerings associated with Prince Shotoku from Horyuji Temple, and highlights of Japanese art from the medieval to modern eras. In honor of the 100th anniversary since the Showa era began, notable modern artworks from the Meiji, Taisho, and Showa periods that entered the imperial collection will also be displayed. Exhibition highlights change in three phases: the first features the Shosoin's 'Lacquered Biwa with Mother-of-Pearl Inlay' and Jakuchu Ito's 'Phoenix at Sunrise'; the second includes the National Treasure 'Dragon-Headed Ewer'; and the third showcases the National Treasure 'Illustrated Account of the Mongol Invasions' and Eitoku Kano's 'Chinese Lions Folding Screen'. All exhibits are rotated between phases.
