Although Shojiro Kimura (1903–1988) was active as a commercial film director before the war, he shifted to educational films after the war, making his artistic profile difficult to define. Thanks to years of diligent film collection by the National Film Archive, a retrospective of Kimura’s works from both before and after the war is now being held. Twenty programs (31 films) will be screened, including P.C.L. works from the 1930s, educational films from the 1950s onwards, and independently produced films from his later years.
