War, worsening climate conditions on Earth, ever-larger natural disasters—questions about our troubled world are always on my mind. Since the aftermath of the 2011 Great East Japan Earthquake, I have continued to paint images of Ksitigarbha (Jizo), the bodhisattva who is said to stay in this world and vow to save every last being. In 2026—for some reason, I feel compelled to paint only Jizo. This isn't theoretical; it's an irresistible urge. My search for answers goes on. (Artist's statement)
