Located in Fujinomiya, Shizuoka Prefecture, Lake Tanuki is a 3.3-kilometer circuit lake with impressive direct views of Mount Fuji to the east. Once a small marsh, it was expanded for agricultural use in 1935 by constructing a dam. At an elevation of 650 meters, the lakeshore is planted with cherry and azalea trees, with broadleaf forests spreading to the north. Leaves begin changing color in early November, reaching their peak in mid-November when maple trees and others turn vivid red and yellow, creating stunning autumn scenery set against the majestic mountain. Walking paths are well maintained, and visitors can rent bicycles at the “House of Earrings” on the southern shore to enjoy the autumn colors around the lake. The Tokai Nature Trail passes nearby, with hiking routes leading to Odana Marsh, Tenshi Peak, and Choja Peak. The famous Shiraito Waterfall, also known for its autumn foliage, is in the vicinity.
