SUMMARY:38th Annual Meiji Shrine Doll Thanksgiving Ceremony
DESCRIPTION:This annual event at Meiji Shrine provides a way for people to express gratitude and respectfully lay to rest dolls they can no longer keep. Now in its 38th year\, the ceremony includes a ritual at the main shrine\, featuring shrine maidens performing sacred dances in traditional attire. Last year\, about 6\,900 people participated from across the Tokyo region\, and roughly 41\,000 dolls were entrusted. The sight of thousands of dolls lined up along the shrine’s corridors is impressive.
