This exhibition explores how stories and illustrations from ancient to early modern times have depicted and narrated 'battle', using illustrated scrolls, war tales, and historical documents. The first section introduces 'The Tale of Tomo no Yoshio', which recounts the Incident at the Otenmon Gate through both illustrations and text. This work is considered a copy of the National Treasure 'Scroll of Minister Tomo' (held by the Idemitsu Museum of Arts). The exhibited manuscript, severely damaged by insects and wear, had been stored for many years, but restoration was completed in 2024, and it will be unveiled for the first time in this special exhibition.
