The Uzuma Bamboo Lantern Festival is a light-up event that illuminates the banks of the Uzuma River in Tochigi City, Tochigi Prefecture, with bamboo lanterns. A row of bamboo lanterns lines the left bank of the river flowing through the historic warehouse district, creating a magical walking path. The lanterns, crafted from Japanese timber bamboo, stand about 50 to 70 centimeters tall and feature LED bulbs. Designs, such as Tochigi City's mascot character 'Tochisuke,' are carved into the bamboo. The lighting ceremony will take place on Saturday, October 24, 2026, starting at 5:30 PM. The event opens with a kamishibai (paper theater) performance titled 'The Catfish of the Uzuma River.'
